One Tree Hill Cast Might Consider a Reunion If Creator Mark Schwahn Isn’t Involved

Former One Tree Hill stars Jana Kramer and Bethany Joy Lenz recently spoke about their time on the nine-season teen drama while on Jana’s podcast, Whine Down With Jana Kramer in a new episode. The two actors discussed the conditions in which they would do a reboot of the show, which initially ran from 2003–2012.

“None of it would have to go to the showrunner [Mark Schwahn],” Bethany said about Schwahn, who was accused of sexual harassment by 18 women on One Tree Hill in a 2017 Variety report. “The problem is the creator of the show, or any incarnation of the show…that’s a big issue. And I think that would be the big thing standing in the way.”

“Unless he was willing to donate it all or something,” Bethany added a possible solution to doing a reboot with Schwahn needing to be involved. “It would be great to go back and not have it feel like it was divided in any way or when we were going through a rough patch,” she continued.

Bethany portrayed Haley James Scott throughout the show’s entire run, and Jana played Alex Dupré in the last three seasons. On the podcast, Jana spoke about how she felt the cast was a “very divided set” when she arrived, seven seasons in. “I feel like everyone already kinda had their places and it was either, ‘You’re going to be on the A-team or the B-team,” she said. “It was just tricky.” Jana added that she believed Schwahn “created that environment.”

Bethany reflected on how it could be different now, seven years after the show ended. After all, it’s a ripe time for reboots.

“I think we’re all older now,” Bethany said. “It’d be so much easier to really enjoy each other’s company and enjoy showing up at work, appreciate having a job, appreciate being someplace where we know we have a huge fan base.”
