Ree Drummond is a self-proclaimed weirdo who loves watching thrillers and horror films. (Even when they send her flying over to Ladd's side of the couch!) She admits that she's seen way too many Stephen King movies over the years—but what about his TV shows?
One of the iconic author's best-selling novels has been adapted into an eight-episode series that sounds like it might be right up Ree's (dark and spooky) alley. Lisey's Story is described as "a deeply personal thriller" that follows a woman two years after the death of her famous novelist husband. Everything changes when a "series of unsettling events" forces the widow to revisit memories of her marriage that she had deliberately tried to forget.
Even if you've already read the book, the synopsis for the screen adaptation of Lisey's Story promises plenty of thrill, mystery, and suspense. Read on for everything we know about the upcoming series.
Who's in the cast of "Lisey's Story"?
If the Stephen King hook isn't enough to get you to watch Lisey's Story, then the star-studded cast will definitely do the trick. Here are all the familiar faces set to appear in the show:
Julianne Moore as Lisey Landon
Clive Owen as Scott Landon
Jennifer Jason Leigh as Darla
Joan Allen as Amanda
Dane DeHaan as Jim Dooley
Ron Cephas Jones as Professor Dashmiel
Sung Kang as Officer Dan Beckman
Is "Lisey's Story" based on real events?
Well, sort of. Lisey's Story was inspired by Stephen King's own 50-year marriage to Tabitha King, a few near-death experiences, and some terrifying encounters with real-life stalkers.
"In that sense, it's autobiographical, but only in the sense that you take what you know as a framework and then build something that’s totally fictional on that," Stephen told Vanity Fair.
Still, the author feels so connected to the tale of love and loss that he personally wrote all eight episodes of Lisey's Story himself.
"One thing I wanted to say was that with a person who is famous, it can be so bright that they have a tendency to eclipse the people who stand the closest them," Stephen said. "But Tabby is responsible for so much of what I have done, and she's been so supportive of me over the years. It isn't a love letter to her, because that would be a little bit embarrassing for me, and it would be horribly embarrassing for her. But certainly everything that I know in all my experience in marriage has been positive. And that’s in there."
When does "Lisey's Story" premiere?
The first two episodes of Lisey's Story will air on Friday, June 4 on Apple TV+. Following the premiere, new episodes will be released every Friday for six weeks.
Mark your calendars!
