The Jeopardy! fandom is navigating through a rush of feelings about the quiz show and its future. While executive producers continue to tease an announcement about the new Jeopardy! permanent host, Ken Jennings has shared his two cents on an equally important milestone.

It all went down at the 2022 Daytime Emmy Awards on June 24, during which Jeopardy! won Outstanding Game Show. The trivia series went up against Steve Harvey’s Family Feud, Drew Carey’s The Price Is Right, Pat Sajak/Vanna White’s Wheel of Fortune and Wayne Brady’s Let’s Make a Deal. After hearing the exciting news, Jeopardy! executive producer Michael Davies opened up about when the trivia show would unveil its new face and it wasn’t what most folks would have expected to hear.

“The stars of our show and Mayim [Bialik] and Ken [Jennings] have done incredible job hosting,” he told Variety backstage. “We hope to have a hosting announcement very, very soon. But with all of our plans for ‘Jeopardy!’ — which is more ‘Jeopardy!,’ not less, more versions — we’re going to need multiple hosts to represent the entire audience, to represent the entire country, in order to take this franchise forward.”

By the sounds of it, the executive producer was referring to Jeopardy!’s expanding portfolio of championships, tournaments and spinoffs, including Celebrity Jeopardy! that was announced back in May. That said, we’ll need to wait to hear more details from Michael before fully understanding what he has in store for fans.

Meanwhile, over on social media, Ken wasted no time congratulating his team on the incredible achievement. Apart from cohosting along Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik, the Jeopardy! legend is also a consulting producer backstage — a position he’s held since 2020 when the job offer was extended to him by Alex Trebek himself.

“Don’t call it a comeback! Congrats to the hard-working team at @Jeopardy,” Ken wrote in a retweet featuring the winning moment at the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Unsurprisingly, Jeopardy! fans took to his Twitter comments to share celebratory messages and called for his return to the podium. The Maphead author has been absent on the show since early May when Mayim took over hosting duties. According to Ken, he’ll “be back before the end of the season” on July 29 but no date has been set yet.

“Ken you are so humble. Congrats to you and the people behind the scenes of Jeopardy! Alex would be so proud!” one person wrote. “Congratulations to my favorite game show and everyone involved with the show ! The best host is drumroll ……… Ken Jennings 💫,” another added. “Please come back soon Ken. We miss you tremendously. Would love to see you as the permanent host,” a different fan said.

As the search for Jeopardy!’s permanent host nears the two-year mark, we can only keep crossing our fingers that the geniuses behind the cameras will share news soon. But there might be others in the running like Jeopardy! star Buzzy Cohen, who recently hinted at a possible return ...
