It’s those one-off moments at weddings that truly stand out to some couples. Olympic figure skater Meryl Davis recently married her love, Fedor Andreev, in the South of France, and the two are now reflecting back on their destination wedding weekend.
Over the weekend, Davis posted a selfie from the wedding with her husband that pointed to one of their best moments from the nuptials. “Still reeling from the most magical weekend,” the gold medalist wrote on social media. “While I’ve made a big effort to put aside all technology & just be in the moment for this special time in our lives, I thought I’d stop by to share one of my favorite moments from our wedding.”
The occasion was held at Villeneuve-lès-Avignon in a backyard garden. The couple wanted to keep the event as “intimate” as possible, according to People. They invited about 95 friends and family members for the ceremony, held in the backyard of Le Das des Poiriers. Planners Matthew Robbins and Luis Otoya designed the event.
“Following our ceremony & cocktail hour, I asked Fedor to step away with me to help me change out of my heels that were killing my feet…” she continued. “As we walked back toward the tables where our families & many of our closest friends had just been seated for dinner, we welled up with tears of gratitude at this beautiful sight.”
The photo backdrop featured intimate seating arrangements, while showcasing their loved ones connecting and conversing beneath a sea of lights. “To be in this lovely place, celebrating with so many of the people we love most who’d come so far to be with us… truly indescribable,” she concluded. “How special & surreal to experience this once in a lifetime gathering of so many of “our people.“ Thanks everyone for your well wishes! A few more moments, photos & lots of ‘thank yous’ to come! Xo.”
