Netflix has yet to publicly announce when new episodes of The Crown will premiere, but rumor has it that the royal drama will return at some point in 2020, and the actors involved have already started filming the show's next chapter.

Recently, Olivia Colman, who will reprise her role as Queen Elizabeth in season four, was spotted filming scenes at Hickstead show jumping ground in England alongside her on-screen husband Tobias Menzies, and Josh O'Connor, who plays a young Prince Charles.

In photos from set like the one above, they appear to be spectators at a competition, one that Princess Anne, played by Erin Doherty, is taking part in. (See photos of Doherty on set here.) Colman is dressed in the Queen's signature horse-watching attire: a scarf, casual outerwear, and gloves, but it's unclear if they are recreating a specific moment.

Most Windsors have an affinity for horses, but Princess Anne is one of the more accomplished equestrians in the royal family, having competed in the in the 1976 Olympic Games. It's possible that an upcoming episode of the show will feature her participation in Badmiton Horse Trials in the 1980s, pictured below, or another similar equestrian event.

While it's unclear exactly what piece of history is being depicted in these scenes, a few plot points about season four have already been revealed. Charles and Diana's 1983 royal tour of Australia will play a key role in the upcoming episodes, and a few weeks ago, Helena Bonham Carter was photographed filming Lord Mountbatten's funeral.

The Crown was originally meant to run for six seasons, but Netflix recently announced that season five would be the show's last—and that Imelda Staunton would be taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth in the series' final chapter.

“I have loved watching The Crown from the very start," Staunton said in a statement.

"As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion."

The timeline for the show's fourth and fifth seasons have yet to be confirmed publicly, but it's likely that season four will cover the entire Thatcher era, meaning it would end approximately in 1990. That would leave season five to cover John Major's administration, which would take the story up until just a few months before Princess Diana died.
