Olaplex’s New Product Smooths Super Frizzy Hair for Up to Three Days

If you've ever bleached your hair, chances are you've heard of Olaplex.

Olaplex No. 1 and No. 2, the professional-only, two-step salon treatment, is praised by celebs, colorists, and platinum blondes everywhere because it makes the bleaching process less harsh on your hair. The original products work by repairing the bonds that hold the keratin fibers of your hair together (and often break when you're dyeing it) as you get your hair colored.

As someone who doesn't bleach their hair, Olaplex has always been a little bit of an enigma to me. However, I do color my hair darker and completely dry the hell out of it from daily heat-styling. I finally understood why Olaplex earned its cult status when the brand launched its at-home products. The post-coloring, bond-perfecting treatment, shampoo, and conditioner, have all helped strengthen, hydrate, and keep my chocolate brown hair color looking fresh.

But, it's Olaplex's new product that has really turned me into the brand's hypeman. The No. 6 Bond Smoothing Bond Smoother Reparative Styling Creme is part treatment, part styling creme, and it's the only Olaplex product that's meant to be used Every. Single. Day.

The leave-in, reparative styling cream is designed to be used on damp or dry hair, concentrating on your mid-lengths to ends. It's formulated to strengthen hair that's weak and dry from coloring and styling, and eliminates frizz for up to 72 hours. Bonus: It also promises to cut down on your blow-dry time.

No.6 is a fairly rich cream, but it doesn't weigh down my hair. To err on the side of caution, I stick with running a pea-sized amount through my mid-lengths and ends, like Olaplex suggests. This happens to be where my hair is its frizziest because I use a flatiron to add waves to my hair pretty much everyday.

So, is the cream as game-changing as Olaplex's other treatments? In short, yes. After one use, my hair (which has been brittle as hell) was shinier, despite the fact that I haven't colored it in months. But above all, my waves stayed smooth and defined — even though I got caught in the rain on my way to work.

I've yet to experience how No. 6 works on dry hair, but considering using it on my damp, freshly-washed hair has done wonders for my frizz-level, I just might have to stash a bottle in my desk to keep those mid-day flyaways under control.
