Oklahoma man charged in May motorcycle deaths on I-40
A Norman, Oklahoma man has been charged in connection with the wrong-way collision on Interstate 40 in May that left three motorcyclists dead.
Ivan Santos surrendered to Oklahoma authorities Friday based on a Crawford County, criminal arrest warrant filed in connection with the collision May 12, the Arkansas State Police reported.
Santos, 29, is charged with three counts of negligent vehicular homicide while intoxicated, four counts of attempted negligent vehicular homicide while intoxicated, battery (second degree) and driving while intoxicated, state police report.
The charges stem from an Arkansas State Police investigation of the I-40 fatalities. Santos was the driver of a pickup going east in the westbound lanes of traffic when six motorcycles were struck, leaving three people dead and six injured.
They were struck at mile marker 21 near Dyer in Crawford County, state police reported.
Patricia Lemar, 44,a passenger, and Leonard Lemar Jr., 46, driver, both of Slidell, Louisiana, were killed. Malinda Shano, 50, Terrytown, Louisiana, also died.
Santos was jailed Friday in Cleveland County, Oklahoma pending his return to Arkansas for an initial court appearance, Arkansas State Police reported.
