PETE THAMEL: This is Pete Thamel, college football reporter for Yahoo Sports. And we are coming off one of the all-time great quarterback performances in the history of the college football playoff. In Ohio State's 49-28 win over Clemson on Friday night, Justin Fields put up a ridiculous, stupefying, and mind-numbing game. He went 22 of 28 for six touchdown passes, which means he had as many touchdown passes as he had in completions.

This is against the Clemson team that obviously has been one of the best in college football for really the past decade. Ohio State completely mauled the Tigers on both the offensive line and the defensive line. But the story on Friday night wasn't Trey Sermon's 193 yards rushing. It was Fields, Fields, and Fields.

He threw perfect parabolas down the field to Jameson Williams, to Chris Olave, to Garrett Wilson that would make a geometry teacher blush. The ball's dropped in perfectly in streaking receivers. Fields had not had an elite 2020 season to this point.

He'd been erratic against Indiana. He had some moments against Northwestern that made you want to pound your fist against your head. But on the biggest stage against one of the sports Giants on Friday night, Justin Fields put up a performance for the ages.
