Broadway geek or not, you probably knew that pre-pandemic, the musical Hamilton was the most popular show running. When it first opened up in 2015 at New York City’s iconic Richard Rodgers Theatre, where shows like In the Heights and Footloose have also graced us with their presence, it was obvious that ev-er-y-body wanted to see this performance.

But what exactly makes this musical so authentic and captivating? Glad you asked! It tells the story of United States Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant, and the story of how he rose from poverty and hardship to helping mold the U.S. Constitution. It tells that story through hip-hop music. You’ll find no jazz hands or cheesy show tunes here.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the playwright, composer, and star of this theatrical phenomenon, totally bridged the gap between traditional musical-type music and modern songs. The cast of the show, in all its runs, has been almost entirely made up of people of color. All I gotta say is: Let’s. F*cking. Go.

Whether you’ve watched it live three times or been curious what all the fuss is about, you’re in luck. It’s gonna be on Disney+ this Friday, July 3. No need to travel to the Big Apple, keep an eye for their tour stops, or drop the big bucks—just hop in your PJs and open up your laptop.

Sooo, how exactly can I watch it?

You have to have a subscription to Disney+ . If you don’t already, sign-up is really freakin’ easy. It’s $6.99 a month, but if you already have Hulu, you can just add Disney+ to your monthly payment, which will add up to only $12.99 altogether. (You’ll also get ESPN.) That’s literally a steal for a Tony- and Grammy-award-winning musical and unlimited Disney throwback faves.

Can I just start a free trial, watch it, then end my subscription?

We love a good get-out-of-paying scheme!! Unfortunately, Disney+ took away the free trial feature recently. We’re going to assume they did that ahead of the Hamilton premiere on purpose. So you’re gonna have to drop a bit of cash if you want to watch it, buuut it’s totally worth it. I promise!

What time is it premiering?

If it’s anything like how Netflix drops its shows, probs midnight PT. But Disney+ didn’t specify on its site, so I’d just keep your eyes glued to the TV once the clock strikes midnight wherever you are!
