Official gets trucked by Ole Miss QB after getting fooled by fake handoff

This official is going to be really sore tomorrow.

One of the linesmen in Saturday’s game between Ole Miss and LSU got run over by Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral in the fourth quarter after he thought Corral handed the ball off.

Corral faked a handoff to the running back and paused with his back to the defense and the sideline the official was on. As Corral turned back toward the end zone and started running for the score, the official was running toward the pile of linemen thinking the ball had been handed off. That resulted in a nasty collision.

To be fair, the fake was really good. The official was bloodied after Corral’s helmet hit him in the face but he was able to thankfully walk off the field.

The touchdown was Corral’s fourth of the game and extended Ole Miss’ fourth-quarter lead to eight. But the Rebels ended up losing the game 53-48 after LSU scored with 1:34 to go.

Corral threw five interceptions and fumbled the ball with a minute left to ruin any chances of a late comeback. It was the second time this season that Corral — one of the most entertaining QBs in college football — had committed at least six turnovers. He threw six interceptions earlier in the season in a loss to Arkansas.
