From Good Housekeeping

  • Fixer Upper quickly became a household staple after it premiered on HGTV in 2014.

  • Following five successful seasons, Chip and Joanna Gaines decided to end the show in 2018.

  • The couple is returning to the silver screen with Fixer Upper: Welcome Home on discovery+.

Fixer Upper fans asked, and Chip and Joanna Gaines delivered: The powerhouse couple is returning to TV with four all-new episodes of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.

After giving 56 homes their beloved farmhouse treatment, the Gaines' hung up their tool belts in 2018 to focus on expanding their Magnolia brand and family (They welcomed their fifth child in June of that year.). Now, the couple is ready to return to the spotlight, but this time they're doing it on their own terms: The show's new season will be produced by their production company, Blind Nil, and air on discovery+, a new streaming service with a roster of shows from HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Animal Planet and more.

Here's everything we know about Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.

When does the new season of Fixer Upper start?

Fixer Upper: Welcome Home will premiere on discovery+ on Friday, January 29 with an episode titled, "A Neglected Home For Newlyweds." From that point forward, a new episode will air each Friday through February 19.

The show will eventually be available exclusively on Magnolia Network, a new channel with Chip and Jo at the helm. Magnolia Network is slated to launch in 2021.

What can fans expect from the new season?

Everything Fixer Upper is known for — shiplap, Demo Days, and Chip's funny antics — will be back in the upcoming season of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. "In a lot of ways, the show is going to pick up right where it left off," Chip wrote in a blog post. "These years in between have taught us a lot about ourselves and how we operate best, so we’re likely to do a few things a little differently this time around."

Here's the official show description from Magnolia Network: "Chip and Jo are back with new ideas for turning outdated homes into jaw-dropping, innovative living spaces. Having expanded their business (and their family), the Gaineses now juggle more while renovating, which keeps things unpredictable."

Fixer Upper: Welcome Home has a similar look and feel to their old show, as shown in this two-minute trailer.

Is Fixer Upper: Welcome Home still casting for the new season?

In short, yes! If you own a home in or near Waco, Texas, then you may be eligible for remodel by Chip and Jo. Fixer Upper also requires you to:

  • Be 21 years or older

  • Have a $50k minimum renovation budget

  • Be willing to to hand over creative control to Chip and Joanna Gaines, their design and construction teams, and Magnolia Network

  • Be able to vacate the property during the renovation, which is expected to start in fall 2020

What have Chip and Joanna said about the show's return?

Interestingly enough, Chip shared in a blog post that the couple originally swore off returning to Fixer Upper after they said goodbye in 2018. Then as they started dreaming up the Magnolia Network, "it dawned on us [Chip and Joanna] that we wanted to be a part of this lineup with a new season of Fixer Upper."

To Chip, it's simple: "The thing about Fixer Upper was that we got to do the work we love right alongside all of you. Every week, we could feel you cheering on these families from the other side of the screen. And the point is we’ve missed sharing these stories with you."

Now that the new season is a reality, they "feel like a couple of kids trying our best to keep down a few butterflies." More than anything, they are "just giddy about getting the band back together again so we can share the story of these families and their homes with you."

How can I watch Fixer Upper: Welcome Home?

Magnolia Network was originally set to launch on October 4, but it was pushed back due to the pandemic. At this time, it's unclear when Magnolia Network will officially launch, but it's still expected to take over for the DIY channel sometime in 2021.

Chip and Joanna didn't want to keep their fans waiting, which is why they are partnering up with discovery+ to air the first few episodes of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. Starting January 29, you can watch one episode each week on the new streaming subscription service. Some Verizon customers may be eligible for a six or 12-month discovery+ free trial — check your eligibility here. Everyone else can score a seven-day free trial before choosing between two payment options: $4.99/month for a plan with advertisements, or $6.99/month for no ads.

At its launch, discovery+ offers 55,000 episodes from over 2,500 shows, including favorites from TLC, HGTV, Food Network, OWN, Lifetime, and more. There's also plenty more Chip and Joanna to enjoy: You can get a preview of all of the new Magnolia Network shows coming throughout the year and stream weekly episodes of Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, a show that takes you into the Gaines' kitchen.
