Nun Involved in Legal Battle With Katy Perry Dies in Court

Shortly before she died, she said "Katy Perry, please stop."

A nun who had been involved in a legal battle with Katy Perry passed away during a court appearance, TMZ reports. Sister Catherine Rose Holzman died yesterday, March 9, at 89 years old during a post-judgment hearing.

The real estate legal battle began in 2015, when a convent known as California Institute of the Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary was going to be sold. Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez wanted to sell it to Katy, while the remaining five sisters from the convent wanted to sell it to restauranteur Dana Hollister. During the height of the court battle, Holzman had said that Katy "represents everything we don't believe in," adding that it would be a "sin" to sell her the property.

However, Katy won the legal battle the following year, in 2016. A Los Angeles judge ruled that the nuns' efforts to sell the property were "improper," allowing Katy to purchase the convent — if the Vatican were to approve.

TMZ notes that Holzman was back in court this week for a post-judgment hearing. Shortly before her death, she reportedly said: "And to Katy Perry, please stop. It's not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people."
