A “Not Haunted” Sign Mysteriously Appeared Outside a House for Sale and Even the Realtors Are Confused
What's got the Internet talking this week? This for-sale sign that calls out a rather strange detail about the home it references.
On Wednesday, a woman named Margot Bloomstein tweeted a photo of a nearby home that had recently hit the market. The property, located west of Boston, was listed with Ponte Realty Group-Keller Williams Realty, South Watuppa. Everything looked normal about the sign except for a rather chilling message printed on its rider, or the smaller rectangular sign perched above. "Not Haunted" it read in all bold, red capital letters.
"This just went up around the corner and I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS," Bloomstein wrote on Twitter. The tweet quickly went viral, garnering over 114,000 likes and counting as of Friday morning.

Living just around the corner from the house, Bloomstein wanted to get to the bottom of this. She reached out to the real estate agency to ask about the rider, the Boston Globe reports.
Unfortunately, the agency also knew nothing about it. In fact, an agent who saw her tweet messaged her and wrote "Wait a second, where is that sign, because that’s our sign but we didn’t put up that rider."
Bloomstein explained to the outlet that the only conclusion she and the agency came up with was that someone was playing around and put that rider up as a joke. Representatives from the realty group declined the outlet's request for comment on Thursday. The rider has since been removed.
Right now, there is still not a concrete explanation as to how that rider appeared there. It wouldn't be too difficult to get your hands on one of these bad boys. Etsy is selling a "Not Haunted” rider with the same red-and-white color scheme for under $10.
In the state of Massachusetts, real estate brokers and homeowners are not required to disclose whether a property is host to the paranormal. However, there is no ruling on whether or not it’s required to disclose to potential buyers that a house is not haunted, as seen in this case.
Could this all just be a wild prank? Or could this sign's origins be much bigger? Either way, it's probably not the best detail to spotlight on a for sale sign.
