North West wore black lipstick and danced at dad Kanye West's 'Sunday Service' and people are freaking out

For the past several weeks, Kanye West has been hosting “Sunday services” at his home, where gospel choirs, celebrity guests and surprise musical performances usher in a brand new week. On March 17, the mix included a mini concert from DMX and an appearance from Busy Philipps and her family.

But there was no stealing the spotlight from one special attendee: the rapper’s 5-year-old daughter, North West. Mom Kim Kardashian posted footage of her oldest child’s antics during Sunday’s celebration on Instagram Stories, much to the delight — and in some cases, concern — of fans.

The footage shows the younger West rocking a frilly black dress, designer sunglasses and lace-up boots, not to mention a face full of makeup — including edgy black lipstick. Kardashian has been criticized in the past for letting her “contour queen” daughter wear makeup — with the girl’s red pout at her family’s Christmas party being blasted as “inappropriate” — but clearly isn’t deterred by the backlash.

During the show, North at one point joined her famous dad on the mic before grabbing a young friend and dancing to the beat. According to Kardashian, it’s her “favorite part of the week.”

Some fans just couldn’t get enough of North’s attitude.

But many commenters on The Shade Room’s Instagram account were upset by her appearance, lashing out at the way the child was dressed and objecting to her dance moves.

“She shouldn’t be wearing that dark lipstick because she’s too young,” read one comment. “She doesn’t need to be dancing like this to church music. My granny would’ve slapped all the black smooth up off me.”

“Is this what we letting the babies do to church music now?” another commenter complained.

“My momma would’ve popped me for dancing like that in a real or pretend church,” added another person.

“Why is she wearing makeup?” someone asked, while another wrote, “Wake up world, this is so inappropriate for a young child to be dressed all in black [with lipstick]. shaking like this … this is so wrong.”

Fans of the family fought back, accusing critics of attacking a child and reading too much into the situation.
