North Carolina Dad Uses Billboard to Thank Hospital That Treated His 3-Year-Old Son

No ordinary thank you would do for this grateful North Carolina dad.

Dan Driscoll wants the world—or, at the very least, the drivers on Interstate 40 Business—to know how thankful he is for the treatment his son received at Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem.

According to WKII, Driscoll’s three-year-old son Daniel went to the emergency room on July 20 with a high fever, soreness, and irritability. He was diagnosed with a staph infection that had caused osteomyelitis (an infection in the bone) in his femur, ankle, and foot.

Daniel, A.K.A. “Little D,” underwent surgery and spent a week at Brenner.

"I was more scared during the valleys of those days than during any other time in my adult life," Driscoll recalled to WKII. But, through it all, he said the team at Brenner "shined."

After little Daniel was released, Driscoll purchased a spot on a digital billboard near the hospital with a message to the pediatric nurses and doctors who cared for his son.

"To the entire Brenner Children's 8th Floor Team, THANK YOU. - Baby D (and family)," the billboard, which includes a photo of Daniel in his hospital bed, reads.

Driscoll reportedly selected the billboard in the American Legion Post 55 parking lot at 111 Miller Street because he could remember seeing it from his son’s hospital room at Brenner. He wanted to make sure that hospital staff could see it too.

"Absolutely every single person that we interacted with was a beacon of warmth, hope and professionalism," he told WKII. "I’m not quite sure if recognition can exist for an entire organization, but if it can, those people deserve it."
