  • Noah Cyrus clapped back at Candace Owens for criticizing Harry Styles’s dress on his Vogue cover.

  • In her Instagram Story, Noah used a racially charged term that’s used to degrade Black women.

While it seemed like Noah Cyrus was set to end 2020 on a high note following her Best New Artist Grammy award nomination, she’s in some serious hot water now—after defending Harry Styles for wearing a dress in his recent Vogue cover shoot, Noah hopped on Instagram Stories to seemingly fire a racially offensive shot at conservative pro-Trump supporter Candace Owens, who sent hate Harry’s way after seeing the Vogue cover.

Noah posted a picture of Harry in his ruffled gown and wrote, “He wears this dress better than any of u nappy ass heauxz,” for the caption. FYI: The word “nappy” has historically been used as a derogatory term to describe the texture of a Black woman’s hair—it is not a positive or okay word to use when speaking about a Black woman, despite some Black women reclaiming the term in recent years.

Upon receiving backlash for her poor choice of words, Noah took to her Instagram Stories again to issue an apology to all the followers she offended. “I am mortified that I used a term without knowing the context and history, but I know now and I am horrified and truly sorry. I will never use it again,” she wrote. “Thank you for educating me. I in no way meant to offend anyone. I am so, so sorry.”

But even after apologizing, Noah still received a ton of backlash online:

For the record, Harry lowkey addressed the Candace Owens drama himself and told Variety he really couldn’t care less about what people think about his clothing choices. “To not wear [something] because it’s females’ clothing, you shut out a whole world of great clothes,” he said. “And I think what’s exciting about right now is you can wear what you like. It doesn’t have to be X or Y. Those lines are becoming more and more blurred.”

And as for Candace’s comments? Yeah, Harry basically flipped her the bird in an Instagram post of his own (so he didn’t really need Noah’s help).
