Nikki Glaser is known for her brutally honest (and brilliantly hilarious) comedy, and now she’s getting real about family planning. And she’s getting vulnerable enough to talk about a family planning option that’s become weirdly taboo.

And that’s the option not to start a family. She admitted to Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager during an appearance on TODAY that she intentionally does not want children. At least not biological ones. It’s a fact that probably has Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s bigoted brain going haywire (IYKYK). And it’s something a lot of women are shamed for by both men and women. “What do you mean you don’t want children? How is that possible?” And then a strange song and dance begins wherein people try to convince the woman that they should want and in fact need to have kids to live a happy and fulfilling life.

But. Just. No. No, Butker, no.

It’s a topic that Glaser talks about in her comedy special, “Someday You’ll Die,” — about how kids are “hard work,” that she wants to focus on her career, and her fear of “loving something that much” — and it all resonated with Hager. “I have friends that have decided not to have kids, and there’s still some shame there,” she said.

Yes, it’s a weirdly shameful experience that Glaser knows well.

“You see your friends wanting it so badly — genuinely wanting it — and you feel like, ‘What’s wrong with me that I don’t want it?'” Glaser said. “You kind of feel left out. And that’s what I’m struggling with more than just, ‘Well, should I do it?’ Because I’m kind of sure I don’t want it. But I’m like, ‘Why don’t I want this thing that everyone seems to want?'”

If the time comes when Glaser decides she does want kids (Psst! Reminder: It’s OK if that day never comes.), she said she is open to adoption. “I have some time, and I really don’t care if the baby looks like me,” she said. “It’s not really interesting to me.”

Kotb was quick to affirm Glaser, saying, “I would like to let you know: Adoption rocks.” After all, she’s the proud mom of two adopted daughters, Haley and Hope.

And we would like to let Glaser know that she rocks. Thanks for getting real and for hopefully helping women in the same boat feel less alone.
