Toronto goal: 5-2

Mikheyev scores in hist NHL debut and Toronto is up 5-2.

Nylander doing Nylander things.

Second period: 4-2 Toronto.

Highlights on highlights. What a period for your eyes and your soul.

Toronto goal: 4-2

Holy smokes. What a damn play.

Matthews has his second after a nasty pass set up from Marner.

Toronto goal: 3-2

Auston Matthews gives Toronto the lead on a wicked pass from Nylander.

That’s Auston’s eighth goal in four season openers... what like it’s hard?

Ottawa goal: 2-2

I’ll say it again, you seriously can’t make this stuff up.

Toronto goal: 2-1

Trevor Moore adds another goal and Toronto takes the lead!

Toronto goal: 1-1

Freddy the Goat ties the game up just over two minutes into the second period.

Toronto’s goal song is still Hall and Oates, if you were wondering.

First period buzzer: 1-0 Senators.

A quiet first period from the Buds (and their fans) after the Senators capitalized 25 seconds into the game. Ottawa killed off three penalties in the first period and Toronto had quite a few giveaways. Both teams shaking off the rust and nerves tonight.

The Leafs have had three power play opportunities so far, but no bounces.

Toronto hit two posts in one power play, so that’s how things are going.

Senators goal: 1-0

25 seconds in. You really can’t make this stuff up.

Former Maple Leaf Connor Brown with an assist, too.

Pre-game:

The hometown boy, John Tavares, has now officially been named captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Assistant Captains: Marner, Matthews and Rielly.

The first look at Tavares as captain:

Well, well. We’ll see if the streak continues.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will finally end speculation and name a captain before tonight’s game, but they didn’t give fans a sneak peak in warmups, as no players wore any letters on their jerseys.

The suspense.

We’re also flippin’ excited for hockey to be back.

Welcome to the big leagues, boys.
