Update, March 4, 2021: We started off the year with the amazing news that Great British Bake Off would be releasing a special season that featured celebrities as the baking contestants. There wasn't much information about the release date at the time but the franchise officially announced this week that The Great Celebrity Bake Off will be premiering on March 9.

The star-studded season will benefit Stand Up to Cancer and will feature contestants like Daisy Risley, James McAvoy, and Jade Thrilwall. Of course, the March 9 premiere date refers to when the season debuts on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, but if you're an American fan you're probably, unfortunately out of luck. Historically, the special has not been accessible on Netflix or PBS like the original series, so you'll just have to catch the highlights on social media!

Original Post, January 29, 2021: While we're coming down from the high of Great British Bake Off's Christmas special, it's only right that our beloved comfort show give us something to look forward to next. They, in fact, answered our prayers because a special season of Great British Bake Off is coming this spring and features a star-studded cast.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off is being held and will benefit Stand Up to Cancer, and organization that raises money for cancer research through televised programs. To raise the funds and keep GBBO fans entertained, celebrities will be stepping into the tent to show off their baking skills—or lack thereof, perhaps.

This special edition of the show will be a five part series that is set to premiere in the United Kingdom this spring, according to Deadline. The contestants will include actors, olympians, X Factor winners, and musicians. Star Wars' Daisy Ridley and X-Men's James McAvoy are on the list, as are Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall. Other names include Dame Kelly Holmes, John Bishop, Stacey Dooley, Tom Allen, David Baddiel, YouTuber KSI, Ade Adepitan, Philippa Perry, Nick Grimshaw, Rob Beckett, Alexandra Burke, Anneka Rice, Reece Shearsmith, Dizzee Rascal, Anne-Marie, Nadine Coyle, and Katherine Ryan. Phew.

While the contestant line-up is enough to make me wish the show was available for streaming, like, yesterday, fans will notice the absence of host Noel Fielding this time around. Digital Spy reported that just as Noel skipped out on the Christmas special to spend time at home with his daughter who was born in October, he'll be doing the same this time around. No worries, because we'll still have Matt Lucas, Prue Leith, and Paul Hollywood gracing our screens. Praise be.
