Kendall Jenner Gives the Marie Antoinette Look a Modern Makeover

Feathers, ruffles, and bows—oh my! Marie Antoinette’s wardrobe will forever be remembered for being unabashedly extravagant. The infamous 18th century Queen of France, who ruled at Versailles before the French Revolution, was documented as one of the biggest fashion fans of the time period, known to spend excessive amounts on her lavish lifestyle. It is a more is more approach that has been referenced by countless designers, including John Galliano who memorably riffed on rococo style with his collections for Christian Dior. Flash forward to present day, and it appears her maximalist approach to dressing still applies: Kendall Jenner just took a page out of her book, with a modern, sexy take on her signature frilly frocks.

The supermodel attended a Tiffany & Co. store opening in Sydney, Australia last night, channeling Marie Antoinette’s over-the-top aesthetic. For the event, she chose a pink, ruffled silk-taffeta dress with a feathered trim, from Ingie Paris’s Spring 2019 collection. Hung off the shoulder, and with a super-mini hemline, it was indeed a more current take on that opulent style. Call it the ultimate It girl throwback; a silhouette Marie would perhaps wear if she were alive today. Jenner let the dress shine with minimal accessories: white pointed pumps gave it some modern edge, while a blinding necklace lent a further touch of decadence. Minimalism, who?
