Newark Airport Is Getting a New Centurion Lounge
There’s a new American Express Centurion Lounge location on the horizon. Today, American Express announced it would be bringing its popular luxury lounge concept to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey for the first time.
When the upscale lounge opens in 2026, it will be the third in the New York area, and it will mean a Centurion lounge will be available at all of New York City’s three major airports.
Among some of the unique offerings that will be included in the Newark lounge are a jazz bar and piano lounge to pay homage to New Jersey’s history of being one of the premiere hubs for jazz in the country, the home state of legends like Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie. “To celebrate that history, guests will enjoy a cocktail bar inspired by the 20th Century jazz era in New Jersey and a piano lounge featuring live music,” Amex said in a release.
Another distinctive area of the lounge will be a 1,400-square-foot indoor terrace overlooking the airfield, with views of the Manhattan skyline behind. Guests will also be able to browse an “archival collection,” designed as a gallery of artifacts and antiques that celebrate New Jersey history.
At 17,000 square feet, the Newark Centurion Lounge will be the largest one in the network yet, edging out the JFK outpost (which measures 15,000 square feet) for the top spot. There will be plenty of seating areas to accommodate the Centurion’s growing fan base, as well as dedicated workstations with high-speed Wi-Fi.
Also featured will be the signature amenities that are beloved by many loyal Centurion fans, including shower suites, a space designed specially for families traveling with small children, and dining spaces with dishes based on local cuisine and craft cocktails—although specific menu information has yet to be released.
The lounge will be located in Newark’s new Terminal A building, which opened in January 2023, and will be the first proprietary lounge opened by a credit card company in the new facility.
Only certain credit cardholders can access the Centurion Lounge, including travelers with The Platinum Card from American Express, the Business Platinum Card, the Corporate Platinum Card, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Card, and the Centurion Card.
Amex has been recently expanding its Centurion locations at a steady clip. It recently opened renovated lounges at the Seattle airport and San Francisco airport in February 2023 and December 2022, respectively. Later this year, another lounge outpost is expected to open at Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC, followed by another opening at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in 2024.
