Never Have I Ever Season 4: Release Date, Trailer, Cast and Everything We Know So Far
If you've been wondering when Never Have I Ever season 4 will arrive, then you might have just mannifested your answer. Netflix has announced the season's release date, dropped the full-length trailer, and ten new first-look photos. Keep scrolling to find out more.
Never Have I Ever season 4 was first announced back in March 2022, as the show was granted an early double renewal by Netflix — unfortunately, it was also revealed that season 4 would be the show's final chapter.
Co-created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, the hit coming-of-age comedy series follows the complex life of first-gen Indian American teenager Devi (played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), an ambitious high schooler who struggles with identity, young love and sex, and the journey of healing from grief. The series was partly inspired by Kaling's own life growing up, and has made incredible strides for diverse, authentic South Asian representation on television.
“My philosophy is, if you are so proud of your identity, whoever that may be, whether it's related to your culture, orientation, or anything in between — if you are so proud in that, that means it's a story that deserves to have screen time, because it's worth it," Maitreyi told Teen Vogue back in 2021, speaking about her show's impact. "Clearly there's an audience, and that audience is you.”
In April, co-creator Mindy Kaling spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the show being capped off with four seasons, divulging that four seasons was always her vision for the series. "Four seasons for a high school show felt like it made sense," said Mindy. "They can't be in high school forever. We've seen those shows. Like, you've been in high school for 12 years. What is going on here? Also, the actors get older and it starts looking insane that a 34-year-old is playing a 15-year-old."
“The truth is, we got to know the characters,” she continued, noting how natural the ending of the show feels. "The great thing about doing it on Netflix is that we got to tell stories that you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell in traditional network shows and so we feel good. We really told the story of this 15-year-old girl and that felt like the perfect amount of time."
Over the course of three seasons so far, Devi has grown through grief, has learned valuable self-awareness, and confronted her own insecurities. She has moved beyond her season 1 quest of having sex for the first time and attaining love as a result — by season 3, she's focused on making sure she loves herself.
Season 4 promises the culmination of all of Devi's internal exploration, growth, and ambition with a firecracker delivery similar to Devi's own personality. Plus… who will she end up with? Will Devi choose one of the two boys who have dominated her love triangle for three seasons straight, pick an unexpected newcomer, or will she choose herself?
There's so much to look forward to, that it's a bit hard to keep track of — so we've collected everything we know so far about Never Have I Ever season 4, including release date, cast information, plot details, trailer, and more. Is there a trailer for Never Have I Ever Season 4?
There is, indeed! Netflix dropped the official full-length trailer for Never Have I Ever season 4 on May 9. “Finally, a banging ending,” reads a text card in the trailer, while we see what life looks like for Devi in the shaky aftermath of her hookup with Ben. “This summer, the end is just the beginning.” This season promises to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions, farewells, and new experiences. We are so ready.
Netflix had previously released a teaser trailer for Never Have I Ever season 4 on the same day as the release date reveal. “This is Devi Vishwakumar. She's an Ivy-League-chasing horndog from Sherman Oaks, California,” narrates John McEnroe at the start of the trailer. “But you already know that. There's no denying that the journey to senior year has had its up and downs." Cue the supercut of all of Devi's spectacular downs, including falling into the hot tub of her mother's potential love interest, her iconic coyote run-in, and accidentally getting Paxton hit by a car.
“But soon, Devi and her friends return to high school for one final year. And this time, they're ready for anything,” continues McEnroe via voiceover. Then we see a montage of chaotic clips that we can't wait to unpack: New York City, Devi kissing new bad boy Ethan, partying, prom, a limo, and Devi and Paxton getting a little closer than before.
Last year, Netflix hinted at what was to come in NHIE S4 with a clip released during its annual Tudum event. The video opens on Maitreyi reading a script from the upcoming season, and she's soon joined by her costars Darren Barnet and Jaren Lewison. The trio expresses disbelief over the future of NHIE, teasing vague yet intriguing confirmed plot points like Paxton coming back to Sherman Oaks High and a wedding. (!!!) The clip ends with an appearance from the show's newest cast member, Michael Cimino. (More on that below.)
When is Never Have I Ever Season 4 coming to Netflix?
Never Have I Ever season 4 will officially premiere on Netflix on June 8, 2023! On April 13, both Netflix and the show's star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan revealed the release date on social media. “Time to finally stop pranking. Let's do this @neverhaveiever see you June 8th everyone,” Maitreyi tweeted along with the heart and party cheering emojis.
As reported by Elle, filming for Season 4 of Never Have I Ever officially wrapped in early August 2022. The end of production for the series was reportedly celebrated with a carnival, send-off speeches from Maitreyi and Lang, and a four-season-long blooper reel. According to Darren Barnet, he and his co-star Benjamin Norris shared a sweet moment on set of Paxton's emptied garage, hugging and shedding a few tears. “It was crazy. We both were like, ‘I did not expect to cry,'" Darren told Elle. "It really was that kind of aha moment, like, We did this.”
Who is in the cast of Never Have I Ever Season 4?
Warning: spoilers for Never Have I Ever season 3 ahead.
Devi's decision to stay at Sherman Oaks High for her senior year over attending the prestigious Shrubland School means that the majority of our favorite characters will return for season 4. This includes Never Have I Ever's leading lady Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (who plays Devi), Ramona Young (Eleanor Wong), Lee Rodriguez (Fabiola Torres), Jaren Lewison (Ben Gross) and Poorna Jagannathan as (Nalini, Devi's mom).
As things seem to get more serious for Devi's cousin Kamala and Manish aka Mr. K, it's safe to assume that Richa Moorjani and Utkarsh Ambudkar will also return to reprise their roles as the two lovebirds. Benjamin Norris (Trent Harrison) will also return, as it's revealed in S3 episode 10 that Trent has to repeat senior year — much to his girlf Eleanor's delight.
Devi allies and family members like Ranjita Chakravarty (Nirmala, Devi's grandmother), Niecy Nash (Dr. Jamie Ryan, Devi's therapist), Megan Suri (Aneesa Qureshi, Devi's friend), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohan, Devi's deceased father) will also make a comeback for the final season.
The biggest new addition to the main cast that is Love, Victor's Michael Cimino, who will play Ethan, described by The Hollywood Reporter as “a skater and new heartthrob at Sherman Oaks High.” (Insert one hundred eye emojis here.)
And while it may seem like this was the last we'll ever see of incoming Arizona State University freshman Paxton Hall-Yoshida (played by Darren Barnet), NHIE's co-creator Lang Fisher told Entertainment Weekly after the premiere of season 3 that the love triangle between Devi, Paxton, and Ben is far from over.
"The love triangle's not done," Lang told EW. “In season 4, it continues onward. But I think the part that is done is seeing him as this unattainable dream of a hunk. He is no longer that, and they can be more like peers going forward.” You can always sign us up for more Daxton-Bevi drama!
What will Never Have I Ever Season 4 be about?
According to a 2022 statement released by Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television, the last season of the series will track Devi's senior year of high school. The writers and cast members of NHIE have teased a bit about what's in store for the final season, hinting at big transitions and growing moments for the characters as they prepare for life after high school, with Jaren Lewison even telling People that Never Have I Ever season 4 is the “best season we've ever made.”
“I think the way the writers approached this fourth season has been with such care and with such tenacious and meticulous planning that I think we all feel comforted by the fact that it was a perfect sendoff," Jaren said while speaking to Elle. "This fourth season is perfect.”
Romantically, season 3 ended with a bang — no pun intended — as Devi and Ben finally hook up. What does this mean for their friendship? Does this mean we're now entering the era of Bevi? Is Paxton really out of the picture? Nope. Co-creator Lang Fisher confirmed to Elle that Paxton is definitely still in the running for Devi's heart, and that season 4 will end with Devi finally making a definitive choice between Ben and Paxton.
“There is a choice. [Devi] makes a choice… the winner wins,” Lang said. “The only problem with it is… I’m like, ‘One team is going to be real mad at me.’” Team Paxton and Team Ben… get ready.
Is this the end of the Never Have I Ever universe?
Never Have I Ever may be ending with season 4, but co-creator Mindy Kaling isn't striking down the possibility of expanding the NHIE universe and telling more stories — potentially those of our favorite supporting characters.
"Oh my gosh. Absolutely. I absolutely would consider doing that if there was a demand," Mindy told Popsguar when asked about a future spinoff. "I've never thought about a spinoff actually. It's a fun thought experiment, but I haven't actually thought of one."
Then, shortly after giving it some thought, Mindy revealed which character's storyline she'd be interested in exploring more: the hilarious MVP of the entire series, Trent. “Honestly, he's so funny to me,” said Mindy. "He really makes me laugh, so finding out [more about] Trent and seeing what his haircare routine is every morning. I would definitely watch that show. I'd definitely like to write that show."
We would definitely watch that show, too. Guess we'll just have to wait and see whether Trent's storyline gets a cliffhanger at the end of season 4!
Are there any first-look photos for Never Have I Ever Season 4?

In the new images, we see Devi on graduation day, the main trio dressed up for prom and headed to a college fair, Paxton back at Sherman Oaks High, and we even get a closer look at bad boy Ethan.
