Nets’ Jacque Vaughn says ‘keeping things simple’ led to win over Knicks

Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has done many things for the Nets to change how they play to lead to more sustainable winning habits. One of those things is keeping the game of basketball simple. As a team, Brooklyn loves to play efficient offensive basketball that comes from getting good, open shots and limiting turnovers.
In Saturday’s 122-115 win over the New York Knicks, the Nets racked up 35 assists on 46 made field goals (76%). That shows that Brooklyn did not do much one-on-one play that can lead to stagnant offensive possessions and inefficient looks at the basket. Coming into this game, the Nets were eighth in the NBA in assist percentage (61.6%) and they far exceeded that mark on Saturday.
Also, Brooklyn had only nine turnovers as they made sure to take good care of the basketball when the Knicks were making their comeback in the second half. Despite the Knicks doubling Kyrie Irving thereby forcing other Nets to make plays, Brooklyn still did a great job of not turning the ball over too much. Vaughn spoke postgame about how good it was to see the Nets playing simple, yet effective, basketball:
“Yeah, it was really good. I just think overall, we kept things really simple. That showed with the eight turnovers. 31 assists, eight turnovers. So, our ability to share the basketball, play with pace also, spray that thing, drive and kick with space. Pretty good to see.”
