Netflix Releases Heartbreaking New Trailer for ‘Monster’ & We’re Already Obsessed

We highly recommend you stock up on tissues before watching this upcoming book-to-film adaptation, because this all-new teaser is already pulling at our heartstrings.

Netflix just released a thrilling trailer for the highly anticipated movie Monster, which focuses on a teen who’s thrown into the criminal justice system.

Monster is based on the namesake novel by Walter Dean Myers, following a Harlem-raised honor student named Steve Harmon (played by Kelvin Harrison Jr.). His world is turned upside down when he’s charged with felony murder and sent to juvey while he faces a complex legal battle.

“Should one moment define my life?” he says in the clip.

In addition to Harrison Jr., the movie also stars Jennifer Hudson, John David Washington, Jennifer Ehle, Alejandro Hernandez, Jeffrey Wright, Jharrel Jerome, Mikey Madison, Tim Blake Nelson, Paul Ben-Victor, Lovie Simone, Jonny Coyne and Dorian Missick.

Monster was directed by Anthony Mandler (Happiness Continues). Although the story is based on Myers’s best-selling novel, the screenplay was co-written by Janece Shaffer and Colen C. Wiley. Wright, Nasir “Nas” Jones and John Legend (NBD) served as executive producers.

Although Monster originally premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, it hasn’t been released to the general public. That all changes on May 7, when Monster is scheduled to hit Netflix.
