  • Actress Jane Lynch confirmed she's working with Netflix and singer Cyndi Lauper on a modern-day Golden Girls comedy TV show.

  • The news comes after Seinfeld writer and comedian Carol Leifer teased the project on Facebook with a picture of them together.

  • No release date has been announced or who the other two cast members will be.

A modern-day Golden Girls show is in the works, courtesy of actress Jane Lynch, singer Cyndi Lauper, and of course, Netflix. Lynch confirmed the news backstage at the Creative Arts Emmys, describing it as a “kind of a Golden Girls for today,” according to Variety.

The 59-year-old shared that she pitched a comedy show to Netflix that was bought, and she’ll be co-starring in it next to the ‘80s music icon. “We’re our age, I’m almost 60 and she’s 65, and we’re looking for our next act, without ever having had husbands [or] children,” she said. “And there will be two other people who haven’t been cast yet. But it’s kind of a Golden Girls for today.”

The two are reportedly working with Seinfeld writer and comedian Carol Leifer, per Variety. On July 12, Leifer posted a picture of the three of them together on Facebook, teasing the upcoming project.

“It’s official!” she captioned the image. “Headed out next week with a new half-hour comedy, starring Jane Lynch & Cyndi Lauper! A writer’s dream to work with these two LEGENDS. Can’t wait to see where we land…”

A release date hasn’t been announced yet, but we can’t wait to hear who will be joining the spunky group. And we're also left wondering what the set design will be like, because a Golden Girls-inspired show—even if it's not a reboot—can't be complete without a lanai or a Martinique-patterned bedspread!
