Looking for a show to satisfy all your paranormal cravings? Look no further than Dead Boy Detectives, Netflix’s newest series.
Based on the fictional detective duo of the same name created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner for DC Comics, the Dead Boy Detectives are making their way to a screen near you very soon thanks to showrunners Steve Yockey, known for Supernatural, and Beth Schwartz, known for Arrow. Judging by its showrunners alone, we can already predict Dead Boy Detectives is the perfect fantasy-meets-horror-meets-mystery show of 2024, but for the skeptics out there, just know the show will also be part of The Sandman Universe for Netflix, so if you liked the 18+ series from 2022, buckle up.

What is Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives about?
Dead Boy Detectives follows the story of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, two dead teenagers born decades apart who, as ghosts, set up an agency — the Dead Boy Detectives agency… duh — to solve mysteries. According to Netflix’s synopsis for the show, Edwin and Charles “will do anything to stick together — including escaping evil witches, Hell, and Death herself.”
The two dead besties are not alone, though. They are joined by a clairvoyant named Crystal and her best friend Niko, who will help them solve some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases for their supernatural clientele.

Who is in Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives cast?
Leading dead detectives besties Edwin and Charles are played by two English actors: newcomer George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri, whom you might recognize from Fate: The Winx Saga.
Both characters were first introduced in 2022’s The Sandman. Netflix describes Edwin as “a student at St. Hilarion’s boarding school for boys in 1916 when a group of bullies offered up his soul to hell. He was dragged away by a demon and spent more than 70 years being tormented before escaping and meeting Charles Rowland. Edwin is very studious, maintaining an extensive library of occult tomes he uses for research and to cast spells that allow him to gather information and fight dangerous enemies.”
Meanwhile, Charles “died in 1990 after being attacked by bullies at St. Hilarion’s. Charles became friends with Edwin Payne’s ghost, choosing to stay with him rather than following Death to the afterlife. Very friendly and enthusiastic, Charles prefers to confront problems head-on, armed with a magical cricket bat that he carries in a bag of tricks capable of holding almost anything.”
Edwin and Charles’s clairvoyant friend Crystal Palace is brought to life by English actress Kassius Nelson, who’s also appeared on A Series of Unfortunate Events and White Lines. Crystal is described as “a psychic medium who Edwin and Charles save from demonic possession. Left missing many of her memories, she decides to join the Dead Boy Detective Agency and use her powers to save lives while trying to figure out who she really is.”
Crystal’s BFF, Niko Sasaki, is played by Japanese newcomer Yuyu Kitamura. “Niko Sasaki left Japan to go to high school in Port Townsend, Washington, after her father died, but she dropped out while afflicted by supernatural parasites. Her brush with death allows her to see ghosts, and she helps the Dead Boy Detectives using investigation skills she learned from watching Scooby-Doo and reading lots of manga,” the character’s description reads.
Additional casting includes Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Ruth Connell, Lukas Gage, and David Iacono.
