Nebraska's Zack Darlington leaves team for the Army
Nebraska wide receiver Zack Darlington won’t play his senior season for the Huskers and will instead join the Army.
Darlington made the announcement on his Twitter page Tuesday.

“I have realized that life is much bigger than football and I will be trading in my cleats for a pair of standard issued Army boots,” Darlington wrote in his Twitter post. “My 2nd dream was to serve my country and it’s only right I chase that with everything in me also. I am eager to be [sic] apart of the most powerful military on the planet and serve the greatest country in the world.”
Darlington was a redshirt junior in 2017. He came to the school as a quarterback and served as a backup quarterback in 2015. He moved to wide receiver in 2016, but also moved back to quarterback because of injuries at the position. He was the team’s holder in each of the past two seasons and while he didn’t catch a pass in 2017, he threw one for a five-yard loss.
A Florida native, Darlington was a three-star recruit in the class of 2014 according to Rivals.
