According to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), 99,975 pounds of chicken products from brands Happi Foodi Southeast Grocers are being recalled from a number of grocery chains, including Walmart and Winn-Dixie. The news comes after both Tyson and Perdue were faced with recalls in January-Tyson pulled 36 thousand pounds of nuggets while Perdue had a reported 68 thousand pounds recalled for potential "wood contamination."

The VICS Acquisitions' recall for Happi Foodi Bloody Mary Inspired Chicken, Southeast Grocers Marsala Chicken, and Southeast Grocers Mediterranean Herb Chicken was announced after a mislabeling incident. The brands failed to declare egg products on their ingredients list. The error was first discovered on February 8 after a label review identified the missing ingredient.

Happi Foodi, a frozen food line launched in 2018, has been sold in a number of Walmart locations across the country. The effected products' use by dates included March 2, 2020 and April 15, 2020. While Southeast Grocers; the parent company of BI-LO, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie; shipped contaminated packages to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina chains. The recalled Marsala Chicken had use by dates of February 8, 2020 and March 3, 2020, and Mediterranean Herb Chicken had use by dates of February 7, 2020 and March 4, 2020.

Along with Perdue and Tyson-and now Happi Foodi and Southeast Grocers-the USDA has issued several recalls in the past year. Pieces of metal were reportedly found in Jimmy Dean Frozen's ready-to-eat sausage links in December, JBS Tolleson 6,000 tons of beef recalled in October, and last May Kroger had a plastic contamination issue.
