NCIS: Los Angeles fans, it looks like LL Cool J isn't done with the TV franchise just yet.

On May 21, longtime viewers of the CBS drama were devastated when it ended after 14 seasons on the air. While many thought this would be the last time they would see the actor portray his character NCIS Senior Special Agent Sam Hanna, they got a major surprise when they watched the NCIS: Hawai'i season 2 finale. Not only did LL Cool J bring Sam to the tropics, but his surprise appearance coincided with another piece of staggering acting news — he's not leaving the NCIS universe.

"Couldn’t keep Sam Hanna off the case for too long!!" he shared on Instagram on May 22. "Starting tonight, Sam Hanna will join forces with the @ncishawaiicbs team as a recurring guest star in the upcoming third season. Tune in the season 2 finale of @ncishawaiicbs on @cbstv at 10 ET/PT or on @paramountplus for live streaming and on demand. 💪🏾."

He wasn't the only one thrilled by his latest expansion into the world of NCIS. Shortly after he broke the news, the official Instagram account for NCIS: Hawai'i joined in on the celebration. "LET’S DO THIS 👊," read their comment. "🤙🏽❤️👊🏽," added Vanessa Lachey, who plays Jane Tennant on the island spin-off.

Unsurprisingly, fans immediately started to cheer on LL Cool J over his incredible career announcement. "👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 congratulations glad they’re not getting rid of Sam yet ❤️," one person wrote in the Instagram comments section. "That's AWESOME, and I'm so excited to see him back. ❤️❤️," a different viewer added. "YASSSSSS. I’m so happy to hear this ❤️," another follower exclaimed.

As far as how Sam will join Tennant's world, that's to be determined. As folks saw in the season 2 finale, Tennant and Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson) received a phone call from him after being abducted and attacked in Venezuela. Since he was last seen in Morocco trying to save Hetty (Linda Hunt) during NCIS: LA's series finale, he was able to keep an eye on the other agents while also being overseas. If this interaction is anything to go by, then fans will probably see LL Cool J stick around for some time.

What's more, the show's executive producers can't wait to explore more with his character in the future.

"All of us at NCIS: Hawai'i have been huge fans of LL Cool J for years," said Matt Basack, Jan Nash and Christopher Silber in an official statement, per Entertainment Weekly. "[We] couldn't be more thrilled or honored to be adding his spectacular talent to our ohana for season 3."
