Michael Weatherly totally crushed Bull fans in two swift tweets.

After five years of portraying a psychologist/trial-science expert on the hit CBS legal drama, the 53-year-old actor was the first to announce on January 18 that Bull is officially coming to an end in May. Currently, Bull is airing its sixth season on Thursday nights, and there are 12 episodes left.

“Hello all! It’s been my privilege to play Dr Jason Bull but after 6 Seasons of incredible storylines, I’ve decided it’s time to pursue new creative challenges and bring his story to a close,” he wrote. “It has been an honor to work with this talented cast, crew, and writing/producing team who helped reinvent the legal drama. Stay tuned for a big series finish…Thanks to all the fans from the bottom of my heart. You will always be a part of our Bull family!”

While Bull fans were “gutted” by the unexpected news, longtime NCIS viewers instantly perked up after realizing that this could open the door for Michael to return as Special Agent Tony DiNozzo. As folks may recall, he played Gibbs’ (Mark Harmon) right-hand man for a total of 13 seasons before departing from the procedural CBS drama in May 2016. Several weeks before his last NCIS episode in season 16, news broke that Michael already had his next project lined up — later that year, Bull’s pilot aired in September.

Now, he is wrapping up the Dr. Phil-inspired show and NCIS fans are trying to point him back to Washington, D.C. to rejoin McGee (Sean Murray) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama).

“Perfect come back to NCIS and take over the team! Bring Ziva!” one person wrote. “Some free time, how about a nice 5 or 6 episodes back on NCIS with Gibbs and Ziva. Let's close this out in style,” another added.

“I hope this means you might return to NCIS,a different fan said. “Time to replace Gibbs?” a follower commented. “This is only acceptable if it means you're gonna go back to @NCIS_CBS,” someone else tweeted.

Loyal NCIS viewers can recall Michael’s character Tony walking away from the team after avenging Ziva (Cote de Pablo)’s death. He then decided to put all of his energy into raising his and Ziva’s daughter, Tali (Layla Golfieri). But a plot twist later in season 16 revealed that Ziva wasn’t actually killed during an attack.

So, will Michael make NCIS fans’ dreams come true? According to his own departing words, folks aren’t wrong to hold on to hope. "[DiNozzo] will live on in the hearts and minds of the viewers and is embedded in the show,” he said in a statement. “I would absolutely be open to anything and everything including things that no one's even thought of yet."
