Weeks after Gibbs (Mark Harmon) said an emotional goodbye to his team, NCIS fans are still holding on to hope that the special agent in charge will be back soon. And now, there seems to be mounting evidence that he will be returning and not alone. But with who? Perhaps, with Tony (Michael Weatherly).

It all began on December 5 when Michael shared a throwback black-and-white selfie from his NCIS days. As folks may recall, he played Special Agent Tony DiNozzo for a total of 13 seasons, from 2003 to 2016, and was best known as Gibbs’ right hand.

“This guy woke me up this morning,” Michael captioned the photo. “Then I realized it was still a dream. He wouldn’t stop talking about Gibbs and his shoulder holster. #ncis dream.”

Of course, Michael mentioning Gibbs, coupled with the fact that Mark is still in the opening credits for season 19, has some believing that Mark's iconic character is making a comeback.

But that’s not all. The next day, on December 6, Michael posted an 11-second clip on Twitter of himself questioning a Christmas tree. “It’s time for some HARDBALL Xmas questions #ncis,” he wrote. In it, a decorated and lit tree is front and center, and when the camera turns to face Michael, he's seen wearing an NCIS hat. Basically, he was back in character trying to get to the bottom of a case.

“So, where were you on the morning of December 25th?” he says in the video. “Speak up. I can’t hear you. You think I’m kidding?!”

After seeing Michael’s post, some fans took it as a sign that he was trying to share news with them. “Okkkkkk 2nd NCIS post in 2 days from you! Are u coming back?!” one person wrote. “Sir are you and Cote going back to NCIS or in a Christmas special?? Unclear what clues I’m supposed to be uncovering here,” another added, referring to Tony's undeniable chemistry with Special Agent Ziva David (Cote de Pablo).

As fans know, Tony left NCIS at the end of season 13 after Ziva was thought to have been killed during an attack by the Mossad. After her death was avenged, Tony resigned and dedicated himself to taking care of his and Ziva’s daughter, Tali (Layla Golfieri). Later on in season 16, it was revealed that Ziva hadn’t actually died, and she was in hiding.

Whether or not Tony will make a guest appearance in NCIS in the near future is unknown, but it would be incredible if Gibbs was by his side. Not to mention, the two of them walking in with Ziva and a grown-up Tali. Can you imagine?! Here's hoping!
