NC State coach tears patellar tendon in pickup game
North Carolina State coach Kevin Keatts had a successful first season at the helm of the Wolfpack program — and for the most part it was injury free.
He, though, wasn’t so lucky.
Keatts tore his right patellar tendon while playing in a pickup basketball game on Wednesday, per PackPride.com, and required surgery on to repair the tendon on Thursday. A school spokesperson confirmed that the surgery was successful, and that Keatts is resting at home.
But the bright side — if you can find one — is that Keatts went 3-0 on the night before his injury.
While there is no official word from Keatts or the school, he is likely looking at 4-to-6 months of recovery time.
The Wolfpack went 21-12 last season, falling to Seton Hall in the opening round of the NCAA tournament — their first appearance in three years. Keatts spent the previous three seasons at UNC-Wilmington, where he reached the NCAA tournament twice.
