  • Songland is a new musical competition that premieres in May.

  • The show will connect unknown songwriters with famous singers to produce the next chart-topping hits.

  • Here's everything you need to know about the new show, including which famous faces will appear on the series.

Now that The Voice has wrapped season 16, you might be searching for another music-based competition to fill the void until the show returns this fall. Thankfully, NBC thought of that and is here to help. The network is debuting a new show called Songland, and it's different from any contest ever aired on TV.

What is Songland About?

The goal of the show is to help the industry's biggest stars find their next hit, with the help of "undiscovered" song writers. On each episode, four songwriters will perform their original work in front of a panel and one guest artist whom the song is for. After deliberation, three writers will be selected to work with a producer in order to work on the track and make it fit the singer's style. "In the end, a winner will be chosen and their song will be recorded and released for a global audience," according to NBC.

Who's on 'Songland'?

Only some of the biggest stars in the music industry, of course. Some of the celebrities appearing on the program include: John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini, and Old Dominion. Although the guest celebrity will change, the producers-Ester Dean, Shane McAnally, and Ryan Tedder-will return each week. Those names might not sound familiar, but Shane, for example, has worked with country music crooners including: Kacey Musgraves and Sam Hunt, while Ryan Tedder fronts OneRepublic. The series is also produced by Maroon 5 frontman and former Voice coach, Adam Levine.

When Is 'Songland' on?

Fittingly, the show is taking over one of the nights that previously showed The Voice. The series premiere of Songland is on Tuesday, May 28 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
