Nathan Chen Breaks the Record for Quad Jumps at an Olympics

He broke the previous record of four by landing SIX quad jumps.

Olympic skater Nathan Chen of Team USA made history on Friday, February 16, after landing six quad jumps in the Free Skate portion of the ice skating event at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Landing six quads meant that Nathan broke the previous record of four quads performed at an Olympics. After ending up in 17th place in the Short Program portion of the event with 82.27 points, his performance in the Free Skate earned him 215.08 points (a new personal best for Nathan) propelling him to first place with a total of 297.35 points.

He joins fellow Team USA member, Vincent Zhou, in breaking a figure skating record this week when Vincent became the first person to land a quadruple lutz at an Olympics.

Nathan said that his poor performance in the Free Skate is what pushed him to attempt the six quad feat.

Many people on Twitter were excited and proud to see Nathan recover from the Short Program, calling it a redemption.
