Nate Florence Makes Unmakeable Barrels at a Spot No One In Their Right Mind Would Paddle Out

One gets the feeling that Nate Florence looks at waves a little differently than most people. If you or I were to pull up to a wave that was well overhead, breaking in an inch of water over a slab of jagged rock, and with a lip as thick as the Earth’s crust, we might be inclined to find another spot to surf. But Nate? Nate couldn’t get out to a wave like that fast enough.

It’s a good thing for him, because his choice of waves is a crowd deterrent par excellence. He’s logged barrel time all over the planet, and the barrel time he’s logged is often inside tubes that only a select few could log time inside of.

It’s all part of his Slab Tour. When Nate first pulled up to the wave you see in the video above, it would have made perfect sense if he shook his head and decided to pack it in for the day.

Wild and wooly, unruly as any wave could be, with the wind howling, it would be easy to turn the heat in the car up and head back to the place one was staying at. Not Nate, though. Nate saw the potential and decided he’d make the most out of it. And make the most out of it he did.
