Natalia Dyer Defends Her ‘Stranger Things’ Costars and Says They’re “Oversexualized”

  • Natalia Dyer says her Stranger Things costars are oversexualized.

  • Her underage costar Millie Bobby Brown was once deemed one of the reasons TV was “sexier than ever.”

  • Finn Wolfhard previously spoke about how adult fans would send him suggestive messages.

Natalia Dyer just gave an interview with The Independent about her new Yes, God, Yes film and took some time to defend her young Stranger Things costars from inappropriate people who oversexualize them.

Talking about some of the concerns she has working on the Netflix show, Natalia mentioned the difficulties of keeping spoilers a secret before discussing how the children on the show are oversexualized. For instance, Millie Bobby Brown was just 13 years old when W magazine listed her as one of the reasons TV was “sexier than ever,” which is clearly so wrong. Millie previously spoke out about the label, and Finn Wolfhard once decried adult fans who would send him suggestive messages.

Being cautious with her words, Natalia explained that sexualizing child actors is “a cultural issue” and “there must be a bigger concept behind it as to why.” She added:

“There are so many layers going on here. I generally feel like, to me, it’s oversexualizing them. I feel protective over the younger kids even though they’re not kids anymore, they’re teens. They’re all great people and all having to grow up in very crazy circumstances.”

Natalia went on to say she thinks people should leave the kids—and celebs in general—alone. “Unless you’re talking about their work or what they want to talk about,” she added.

Ultimately, Natalia thinks fans should “just let people be the people that they are, without any judgment.”
