Naomi Campbell Just Took Meghan Markle's Side in Her Legal Battle With the Press

From Harper's BAZAAR

  • In a new interview with The Guardian, supermodel Naomi Campbell spoke out in support of Meghan Markle, who is currently engaged in a legal battle with British tabloid The Mail on Sunday. Her husband, Prince Harry, has filed lawsuits of his own against The Mirror and The Sun.

  • Campbell told the paper she was "really glad [Meghan has] taken action to defend herself."

Naomi Campbell is officially on Team Meghan.

During a new interview with The Guardian, the supermodel defended the Duchess of Sussex, who is currently embroiled in a legal battle with the British press.

"When I heard [she was taking legal action], I was like ‘Bravo. Good for her,'" Campbell told the paper. "We all know what that’s about… I’ve seen how they treat Raheem Sterling, how they speak about Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams. I don’t know how Meghan Markle deals with this and I’m really glad she’s taken action to defend herself."

Meghan spoke candidly of her recent experiences with the media during an interview with ITV for her documentary, Harry and Meghan: An African Journey.

"Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant—you’re really vulnerable. So that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know?" she said. "Thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay. It’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."

At the center of Meghan's lawsuit is a letter she wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, after her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, which was published in part by The Mail on Sunday without her permission. New documents filed by Meghan's legal team include accusations that the publication lied about publishing the full contents of the letter when, in fact, it "deliberately omitted or suppressed other parts in order to portray a false picture," according to a new report from Byline Investigates.

Harry launched a legal battle of his own against the press this fall when he filed suit against The Mirror and The Sun for allegedly intercepting his voicemails.

It's not clear yet how Meghan's lawsuit will turn out, but it is obvious that others in the spotlight appreciate the stand she's taking.
