Wedding bells were back at the White House on Saturday morning as President Joe Biden's granddaughter Naomi Biden— the daughter of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle— wed Peter Neal in front of 250 guests. The only wedding to take place on the South Lawn, the nuptials are just the 19th wedding to occur at the White House.

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were in attendance for the all-day extravaganza, which celebrated the nuptials of Naomi, 28, and Neal, 25, who first met in 2018 while she was a student at Columbia Law School. According to The Washington Post, Naomi works at a D.C. law firm and Neal at the Georgetown Law Center on National Security, and they live together on the third floor of the White House.

The White House released its first photo of the celebration on Saturday afternoon. Smiling for the camera, Naomi wore a high-neck lace Ralph Lauren gown with a full skirt and carried a bouquet of white flowers for the occasion. The bride posed next to her new husband, who wore a navy three-piece suit, and her grandparents, who were also smiling and dressed in blue.

"Congratulations Naomi and Peter! We love you," the grandparents said in a joint Instagram post.

Photographs taken from overhead showed a gathering of guests standing amid white chairs on the lawn and around the South Portico, which had been covered with white and green flowers for the festive occasion. A white aisle was laid down across the front driveway onto the grass.

According to the New York Times, the morning ceremony was followed by a luncheon for the family and the wedding party inside the White House. That will be followed by a black-tie evening reception with dessert and dancing on Saturday evening.

In a statement released on Saturday afternoon, President Biden and the First Lady expressed their joy over the marriage.

"It has been a joy to watch Naomi grow, discover who she is, and carve out such an incredible life for herself," said the President and First Lady. "Now, we are filled with pride to see her choose Peter as her husband and we're honored to welcome him to our family. We wish them days full of laughter and a love that grows deeper with every passing year."

Earlier this week, the couple, who first announced their engagement in September of 2021, prepared to walk down the aisle by going to get their wedding license.

"Gotta nail the money shot to secure the license to wed," Neal captioned his photo, which showed the duo at the Washington D.C. Marriage Bureau. Neal wore Nike sneakers and a blazer, while Naomi looked casually glamorous in high heels and olive-colored jeans as they held hands until a fabric arch.

Naomi shares the name of Biden's late daughter Naomi, who died in a car crash at 13 months old along with his first wife, Neilia, in 1972, People previously reported. Incredibly close with her grandfather, she refers to him as "Pops," and has spoken candidly about how significantly she relies on him for guidance.

"He'll pick up our calls no matter where he is," Naomi said in a 2020 interview. "He'll be onstage, giving a speech, and we'd call him and he'd be like, 'What's wrong?!' "

The decision to have the wedding take place on the White House lawn was a significant one.

“Most often, weddings take place in the East Room, which is the largest room,” Lina Mann of the White House Historical Association previously told Yahoo Life. “The other big location for White House weddings inside the White House would be the Blue Room, which is fairly large. Those rooms were used for weddings, particularly during the 19th century when they were smaller affairs. More recently, there have been several weddings out in the White House Rose Garden. Tricia Nixon got married out in the Rose Garden in 1971, and the Souza wedding was also in the Rose Garden.”

Yahoo Life reached out to the White House but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
