Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's newborn daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, comes from a long line of incredible women, as reflected in her name. Lilibet is the nickname used by family for Prince Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, and of course, Diana is the name of his late mother. But there's also a connection to the baby girl's other grandmother, Doria Ragland, mother of Meghan Markle.

According to People, when Markle was little, her mom gave her the nickname Flower, as Markle revealed on her now defunct lifestyle site, The Tig. In their statement announcing her birth, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made it clear they'll be referring to their daughter as Lili, which is, of course, another way of saying “lily,” a type of flower. And not to get too deep, but lilies, the flower, also have a special meaning for the family. Princess Diana and Meghan Markle both carried lilies of the valley in their bouquets on their wedding days, and the plant is symbolic of happiness and rebirth. Sounds like the perfect moniker for a California girl!

“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales,” the couple announced in a statement on Sunday, June 6. There's no mention of Ragland in their statement, but then again, who needs a proclamation when you can have actual grandmother bonding time? Unlike the rest of the family, Markle's mom lives in California and can swing by whenever.

Prince Harry's brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton, have reportedly sent the newborn a gift, in addition to sending their well-wishes online. And we're assuming someone will be delivering a big vase of lilies any day. It's the most obvious present!
