Meet the people who inspire the influential French designer and his fashion house
Visionary fashion designer Thierry Mugler was born on December 21, 1948 in Strasbourg, France as Manfred Thierry Mugler. His passion for the arts at a young age led him to study classical dance and interior design at the Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts. At the age of 24, Mugler moved to Paris and began designing clothes alongside businessman Alain Caradeuc and courtier Azzedine Alaïa. Throughout his career, Mugler has established himself as an icon in the fashion industry, known as one of the first designers to truly embody camp and theatrical fashion. Since 2010, the house of Mugler has gone on to create more iconic fashion moments under the creative direction of Nicola Formichetti, David Koma, and, currently, Casey Cadwallader. Ahead are the people who have most inspired Mugler, "the prophet of Futurism," and the house he created.
