How much is Matt Hancock being paid for I'm A Celeb?
I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! returned to our screens this week, with one hugely-anticipated contestant: MP and former Health Secretary, Matt Hancock.
Matt entered the jungle on Wednesday alongside comedian Seann Walsh, prompting some hilarious reaction from hosts Ant and Dec and - of course - all the memes.
The 44-year-old's role on the show has been controversial to say the least, with many criticising a working MP for taking time off to appear on reality TV. And viewers have been particularly curious as to how much Matt Hancock is actually getting paid for the show.
According to reports, Matt Hancock is being paid around £400,000 to take part in this year's I'm A Celeb.
A source reportedly told The Sun, "Matt’s pay deal with I’m A Celebrity is around £400,000 which is one of the largest ever show fees to have been paid out." The insider added, "They asked him to be on the show three times in a matter of weeks and the money definitely helped seal the deal."
Matt's pay cheque is thought to be one of the highest in the show's history. Previously, Noel Edmonds was apparently paid £600k, while Caitlyn Jenner, Harry Redknapp and 2022 contestant Boy George all reportedly received £500k. Alongside Matt, Ian Wright and Amir Khan are also said to have been paid £400k for their time on the show.
A spokesperson for Matt Hancock has addressed his pay for the show, as well as his work representing his West Suffolk constituency [via The Independent]:
"Matt will be making a donation to St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk and causes supporting dyslexia off the back of his appearance. He will also declare the amount he receives from the show to Parliament to ensure complete transparency, as normal.
"This is an amazing opportunity to engage with the public and talk about issues he really cares about – including his dyslexia campaign. Matt is still working on constituency matters and will continue to do so up until he goes into the jungle. Producers have agreed that Matt can communicate with his team throughout the show if there’s an urgent constituency matter."
