A mum and fan of the Instagram cleaning guru Mrs Hinch was amazed when she discovered a simple cleaning hack to clear muck from her carpets - which even her vacuum cleaner was missing - leaving her floor looking brand new.

Manda Goody posted on the Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, saying her carpet had lost its shine no matter how much she hoovered.

But due to a 59p squeegee trick, the carpet looked as good as new - once a huge hairball had been removed.

Manda wrote: "You lovely Hinchers have done it again. I have a lovely silver grey carpet which lately has become a bit dull and I’m always hoovering but it had lost its lovely look.”

"I saw the post about trapped hair and how hoovering doesn’t get it out. So I bought a squeegee for 59p and gave it a go."

Mrs Hinch has previously shared the cheap hack with her fans.

All you need is a squeegee, which you can pick up for next to nothing at high street home stores and supermarkets.

Simply pull it across the carpet as if you’re cleaning a window.

Any rogue hair or pet fur caught up in the carpet should be lifted by the rubber squeegee, producing a hairball and a rug that looks good as new.

Manda tried it on her daughter’s bedroom carpet and was impressed with the results.

“She has very long hair. I was totally shocked at how much came up and a bit disgusted to be honest," Manda wrote.

"My carpet now looks brand new again! If you haven’t tried it yet do it!"

Understandably hundreds of other Mrs Hinch fans were super impressed with the tactic.

At the time of writing, the post has been liked more than seven hundred times, with over two hundred comments.

One wrote: "I do this every week now. Amazing how much hair and dust comes up. Only thing is my squeegee doesn't last long."

Another added: "I do my stairs often and the amount that comes off is crazy!"

There were even additional tips, to make the job even simpler.

Someone contributed: "You can get a rubber brush (Home Bargains) which makes the job much easier."

Another added: "I've also got a hideous pair of rubber sliders that are used specifically for this. They clean the carpet and it's a work out to boot."
