Once again, Star Wars fans find themselves divided, with some feeling that The Rise of Skywalker betrayed the storytelling choices of The Last Jedi, and others feeling more or less satisfied by the big swings taken by the final movie. In this time of discord, a new enemy has arisen to unite the internet in loathing and bring balance to the fandom. His name? Fleshy Yoda.

This week, writer Olly Smith tweeted an image plucked straight from the depths of Palpatine's dark laboratory, accompanied by a caption consisting of just four chilling words: "Yoda with human skin."

The image has been photoshopped to imagine what the wizened, diminutive Jedi Master would look like if he were less green and closer to the color of day-old ham. The resulting image resembles the product of a cursed union between Jeff Sessions and one of the Gringotts goblins from Harry Potter. Seriously, any fan caught accusing The Last Jedi of ruining their childhoods needs to turn their attention to this space boomer.

Nobody knows what compelled Smith to create such a stomach-turning masterpiece; he followed it up by tweeting "I saw it so you must too," suggesting he doesn't know either. Maybe it's one of those The Ring situations where once you have laid eyes on the baleful, troubled gaze of Fleshy Yoda, you must distribute it to your online acquaintances to avoid falling prey to a curse.

It's about the furthest you can get from the universally beloved Baby Yoda, everybody's favorite part of The Mandalorian whose cuteness and meme-ability has served as a balm in these trying times. That character, credited only as "The Child," has prompted all kinds of questions about Yoda's species. But now that we're living in a post-Fleshy Yoda universe, one question takes priority: Why?!
