‘Mother’s Day’ Writer Anya Kochoff Romano to Make Directorial Debut on ‘Camp Pow Wow’

Anya Kochoff Romano, the screenwriter of “Mother’s Day” and “Monster-in-Law,” will make her directorial debut on the ensemble comedy “Camp Pow Wow,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Kochoff Romano will direct from her own script for Phoenix Rising Pictures, formed by Howard Burd, one of the producers of “Mother’s Day.” Burd will produce with Russell Hollander.

“Camp Pow Wow” centers on five backstabbing and vengeful office workers forced to endure each other’s company at a sleep-away camp for adults for the week.

Burd helped put together the financing for “Mother’s Day” and for “Criminal Activities,” starring John Travolta.

“Mother’s Day” was directed by Garry Marshall in his last directional gig before his death. The ensemble cast included Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts, Jason Sudeikis, Timothy Olyphant, Britt Robertson, Héctor Elizondo, and Jack Whitehall. The Open Road film grossed $32 million at the domestic box office.

“Monster-in-Law,” which starred Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, earned $82 million domestically in 2005.

Kochoff Romano is represented by WME’s, manager Russell Hollander, and Armstrong Hirsch.
