There is a lot of information to absorb when it comes to COVID-19 testing. From where to access to a test to what the process will look like, there's a lot to learn — particularly for those looking to actually get one. But if you believe you've been exposed or want to see family or friends, what's the best COVID-19 test?

Appearing on The Doctors, Dr. Syra Madad explained which COVID-19 will give you the most accurate results. According to the epidemiologist, PCR—molecular tests that look at DNA or RNA—are the "gold standard" when it comes to finding out if you are currently infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. Dr. Madad says these tests are currently being widely used across the United States with more rolling out nationwide, and this form of diagnostic test is "highly sensitive. It tells you with great confidence that you are either negative or positive."

Dr. Madad is clear, however, that there is also room for the secondary type of diagnostic testing—antigen tests—when it comes to COVID-19 detection. She explains, "When it comes to screening purposes, like if I want to see my grandma, I want to go to a party, I want to see other people, do other things, go to school, we can rely on antigen tests that may not be as sensitive, but they can still detect a high percentage of people that are actively infected right now."
