This Is the Most Popular Day to Get Engaged, and It's Right Around the Corner

Nope, it isn't New Year's Eve.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! The lights, the wreaths, the cookies—and don't forget about the proposals. Spring and summer may seem like the most common seasons for everyone to get engaged—at least, that's when your social media feeds tend to fill up with the romantic ring selfies. But according to the WeddingWire 2019 Newlywed Report, the most popular day to get engaged is actually Christmas Day, December 25.

While Christmas Day sees the most proposals overall, December as a whole is a common month for proposals. Nineteen percent of all proposals take place in December, and seven out of the top 10 most popular days to get engaged are December dates. There's nothing quite like a cozy proposal during the holiday season.

In fact, proposing on December 25 is a brilliant idea for any couple who has trouble getting their family together anytime other than the holidays. WeddingWire's report reveals, "Today's millennial couples are opting to make their engagement a highly shared experience," which only reiterates how important sharing their engagement with loved ones is. And thanks to the upcoming (or, in the case of December 25, current) holidays, families typically come together anyway in December, making it easy for the lovebirds to share the news in person, or at least celebrate with relatives after a quiet proposal. Besides the convenience and happiness of being with family, Christmas Day has its own magical atmosphere of joy, love, and celebration. Is there any more romantic Christmas present than a marriage proposal, or hearing "yes!" from the love of your life?

And let's not forget another major perk of proposing on December 25. New Year's Eve is just around the corner—and we can only imagine how amazing that party would be with an engagement to celebrate too! (Just in case you need a refresher, here's how to open a bottle of champagne.)
