The Most Beautiful Yet Dangerous Destinations to See in 2015

A mountain in New Hampshire may not come to mind to be as treacherous or as legendary as most peaks, but stats-wise, the small peak of Mount Washington in Coos County is more dangerous than Denali. Sudden and unexpected changes in weather, summer ice storms, and winds that will whip you away from the mountain slopes have claimed 138 lives since 1849. The White Mountains, where Mount Washington is located, have earned their name. The average annual temperature is 27.1 degrees, and at the peak it can plummet to minus-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Pair that with the winds — the strongest wind gust ever recorded happened here, timing in at 231 mph — and you have far more than a T-shirt-and-shorts kind of hike here.
