This story was originally published on September 20, 2020. Tonight marks the 72nd annual Emmy Awards, the first award show of its kind since the pandemic took hold. Sure, there were the MTV Video Music Awards, which were broadcast live from multiple rooftops around New York City last month and were a success, but it’s the Emmys that are television’s most anticipated event. That said, tonight’s semi-virtual event — which will include Jimmy Kimmel hosting in an empty theatre and videographers dispatched to the winners for acceptance speeches — will be marked “TBD” until the credits roll around 11pm EST. One thing we were worried about was the lack of an Emmys red carpet, which for many viewers, is more important than the show itself. But, as proven by the looks we’ve already seen, just because the night’s fashion won’t look as what we’ve grown accustomed to at the last 72 Emmys, doesn’t mean that it won’t prevail. Instead, tonight’s nominees — including Zendaya for Euphoria; Issa Rae for Insecure; Rachel Brosnahan for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Sandra Oh, and Jodie Comer for Killing Eve; Tracee Ellis Ross for black-ish; and more — will be (fingers crossed) greeted at home by camera crews upon their names being called. And if we’ve learned anything from their past trips down the Emmys red carpet, none of the above will settle for just okay looks for the occasion. Whether that means silky pajamas or couture gowns, only time will tell. Ahead, find out what the stars of your favorite TV shows chose for the (very different) 2020 Emmys.Like what you see? Tracee Ellis Ross is ready for the Emmys. The actress posted a video of herself in last year's fuchsia pink Valentino number ahead tonight's show. The "Black-Ish" actress is nominated for four Emmy awards tonight.
It’s official. Tracee Ellis Ross has proven that masks can be a focal accessory in any red carpet look. Never before has PPE looked so fashionable and red carpet-ready. The Black-ish star, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, stunned in a head-to-toe golden gown cascading down, from a plunging halter top to four gorgeous tiered skirt layers. Sticking with the metallic theme, Ross wore Jimmy Choo silver heels and a timeless, vintage Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Hands necklace in 18k gold and platinum. Her mask, in an eye-catching, iridescent gold color, could not be more perfectly paired with her look. “How fun to get dress up!” Ross captioned her Instagram slideshow. “Can’t say I miss the frenetic energy of the red carpet or wearing high heels, but boy do I miss a pretty dress!” Ross has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series three other times since 2016 and each year, she has graced every best-dressed list as a fan favorite.> View this post on Instagram> > How fun to get dressed up! Each piece in the collection harkens back to two eras — Hollywood’s golden age and sartorial touchstones from the 1980s. The collection is full of exaggerated silhouettes and luminous fabrics, perfect for a red carpet. Ross did briefly remove the mask to present the award for Outstanding Writer in a Comedy Series in person. As one of the few people actually taking the stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this year, her whole outfit looked even more stunning live. Like what you see?
