Watch: Most Awkward Moments from the Met Gala 2021
We all know that you watch glitzy celebrity events for two reasons; the fashion and the (usually accidental) comedy. Which is why the Met Gala is a true favourite - the fashion and the cringeworthy moments are always next level, and this year's event did not disappoint. From the green robot baby to the moment Keke Palmer basically asked Brooklyn Beckham who he was, here are the most awkward moments from the 2021 Met Gala.
Rita Ora, Jimmy Fallon and Taika Waititi play-fighting on the red carpet
Posing for pictures can definitely be a little awkward, and apparently even celebrities feel that sometimes, with Rita Ora, Jimmy Fallon and Taika Waititi getting into a jokey play-fight while posing for a few snaps on the red carpet. The only problem is, the end result all felt just a bit cringey,
Yikes. And that's before we've even talked about the actual live footage of it...

Co-host Keke Palmer definitely didn't know who Brooklyn Beckham was
Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer hosted this year's proceedings (more on than later) and in one really cringeworthy moment Keke essentially asked Brooklyn Beckham who *exactly* he was.
Brooklyn and his fiancée Nicola Peltz were some of the first people to arrive, and during their interview for Vogue's live stream, Keke mentioned that she and Nicola already knew each other before turning to Brooklyn and asking, "Where are you from?" - as though he was some actual stranger. Obviously, Twitter loved this. A lot.

This dog stole the show
We're not saying the Met Gala this year was boring (although, where was Blake Lively?!) but what we are saying is that someone's dog most definitely stole the show for lots of viewers. Read into that what you will.

James Corden was not down to talk about his outfit
The Late Late Show host is already coming under fire for wearing a simple black suit to the Met Gala when he was interviewed by co-host Keke about his look and really shut the whole thing down, prompting grimaces the world over (we imagine).
Keke jokingly asked the Cinderella star, "Tell me, how did you design this look?," to which he responded, "It's a black tux. Let's not start getting carried away," before adding of her compliment, "I appreciate it, but it's a black tux."
Tough crowd...
In general, people found the presenting really uncomfortable
You'd have though Broad City's Ilana Glazer and Hustlers star Keke Palmer would be a match made in heaven, but between them not knowing who some people were and some of the interviews not necessarily *flowing*, people found the hosting a bit uncomfortable.
love ilana glazer and keke palmer but red carpet hosts they are not

The amount of times Keke and Ilana have been like “I don’t know who that is but I love their look” Why did no one think to pull a Miranda Priestly and give them assistants to whisper names in their ear? #MetGala

I have to say it…love Keke and Ilana but I don’t think they are the best choice for Met gala red carpet hosts. Not knowing many of the attendees and awkward interviews, just hasn’t been a strong start. #MetGala #METtalk #Vogue

did the producers not give keke and ilana any resources or did they just not read the materials lmao

Frank Ocean brought a green robot baby, obvs
While some people played it very safe (please see: Hailey Bieber), others went all out, and none more so than Frank Ocean who brought a green robot baby with him to the red carpet, and dyed his hair a matching shade of slime green.
While we don't fully understand how the baby snagged an invite we're into anything bold and out there, especially at the met gala. Although, we're unsure as to how this corresponds with the theme, 'In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.'
Luckily Frank chatted to co-host Keke Palmer about his interpretation of the theme, saying, "In America ... I feel like we do kinda make, set some trends in general, especially in music." ... Great, thanks for clearing that up.

Overall people were just ecstatic to get this rare sighting of him, green baby or not.
The theme may as well have been 'everyone bump into their exes'
Maybe it's because we've not had a Met Gala for two years, or maybe it's because everyone spent those last two years breaking up and making up (not necessarily in that order), but basically everyone's exes or partner's exes were in attendance.
Kim Kim and Kanye's recent ex Irina Shayk walked the red carpet, along with Pete Davidson, Kaia Gerber and Margaret Qualley; Timothee Chalamet, Lily-Rose Depp and Eliza Gonzalez, and Shawn Mendes and Hailey Bieber.
J Lo and Ben Affleck's mask kiss
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are back together. Obviously you know that. We all know that, but apparently these two really want to make sure we definitely do know that. So, they gave us a series of red carpet PDAs - masks and everything.
Nobody understood the theme
If you were thinking that the outfits seems slightly incongruous with the theme you're not alone. Plenty of viewers felt like this year's theme, 'In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,' wasn't hugely easy to understand.
Well, it seems like even the celebs in attendance didn't get it, with lots of them giving very uncertain answers about their outfit inspiration during their interviews.
Gigi Hadid, who looked stunning in a Prada gown with elbow length gloves and a red Jessica Rabbit wig, illustrated the confusion, telling Keke and Ilana, "Mrs Prada always celebrates the most quality, simply-made things. This dress really celebrates keeping it simple, keeping quality. She’s Italian but…"
Meanwhile, when asked what American fashion meant to her Emily Ratajkowsi replied, "I don’t know, I need to go inside and find out."
Addison Rae calling her 18 year old dress vintage
TikTok star Addison Rae attended her first Met Gala in a red Tom Ford for Gucci gown, complete with a bright blonde lob and silver jewellery. While people actually really liked her look, what they were not so keen on was the moment when she described the dress - which is from 2003 - as "vintage".
