Shondaland, the production company from Shonda Rhimes, has announced a new program called Seat at the Table that partners artists with creators from various shows to release special products that are representative of both the production and designers' work. For the first iteration of this initiative, Monica Rich Kosann, the fine jewelry designer committed to creating pieces that empower women, has partnered with Emmy-holder Ellen Mirojnick, the costume designer for Shondaland's Bridgerton, to create a collection of fine jewelry evocative of the show's romantic aesthetic.

"When we first met, it was like we were kindred souls and had known each other for years," Kosann and Mirojnick note. "Our passions and our creative process were totally in sync from the very first conversation."

Mirojnick was responsible for imagining the Regency era-inspired gowns and jewels that many viewers coveted after viewing the show. Romantic and ethereal fashions—adorning strong and powerful women—set the stage visually, and Kosann is known for modernizing timeless and classic jewelry silhouettes, like the locket, charm bracelet, and poesy ring—thus, bringing together a perfect creative pairing.

"To be able to work with Ellen Mirojnick, one of the most iconic costume designers in the industry, was an honor,” says Kosann. “She and I immediately bonded over our passion for vintage jewelry and brought that sensibility to life in the collection. The pieces are a direct nod to the incredible characters and vibe of the show."

"We decided to create three distinctly different pieces to start," say Kosann and Mirojnick. "When we first spoke about design, our immediate thought was to create a locket. There had to be a locket in this collection! A locket is sexy because it can hold secrets of romance, which is so Bridgerton." The locket these two dreamed up embodies the Bridgerton themes: There are wisteria vines entwining the locket, the heart, a buzzing bee adorns the back. There is also a small 'B' if the locket is turned, which is, of course, a nod to the Bridgerton family.

For the second core piece of the collection, the duo came up with a Bee charm—the bee being a nod to its strong visual showing throughout the production—to symbolize creativity and good fortune to anyone who wears it. Diamonds were added on the wings for the gold charm, and white sapphires on the wings for the sterling silver charm.

"We [also] wanted to create was a piece that would pay tribute to Queen Charlotte," Kosann and Mirojnick say. "We then started to design a poesy ring that took the shape of a crown and had the word 'Queen' engraved on the inside. Poesy rings date back as early as the 15th century and bore poetic inscriptions that were exchanged as expressions of friendship, inspiration, and love."

“Shondaland has always believed that everyone deserves a seat at the table, and we are committed to working in collaboration with the creatives behind the onscreen looks and styles as we create show-inspired products and merchandise,” said Sandie Bailey, chief design and digital media officer of Shondaland. “There is power in supporting the next wave of artisans and trailblazers. We are committed to finding ways to partner with women and minority owned businesses and others who embrace the power of storytelling with their craft just as we do.”

Most of the pieces of the collection are versatile—the lockets and bee designs will be offered as pendants and charms, while the poesy ring can be worn as a stackable ring or on a chain. This fine jewelry partnership between the designers will continue into 2023 with more limited-edition, collectible pieces to come. You can view the entire Bridgerton-inspired collection here.
